140 ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATIONS AGAINST THE BILL ON GAY MARRIAGE
The following 140 Orthodox Christian Associations – together with their Branches – from all over Greece and the movement for the traditional Greek Orthodox family “Mom, Dad and Children”, on the occasion of the scientifically unacceptable, and unorthodox decision of the Government to bring to the Parliament a draft law, which provides for the “marriage” of homosexuals and their “right” to procreation, declare, from the very beginning, their firm opposition and express their strong disapproval. The Bill, in the words of the Prime Minister himself, is proposed in the context of equal treatment by the state of LGBTQ+ people and the defence of the rights of children, a law which, however, is not imposed by the European Union.
Homosexual “coupling”, even if it is surrounded by state legality, can never be equated with a heterosexual relationship and be classified as “marriage”. There is no biological complementarity, which makes the relationship fruitful and provides the prospect of creating a Family. In order to have children, third parties will always be used, but they will not participate in the upbringing of the children. Consequently, homosexual ‘coupling’ places children at a disadvantage from the outset in the deprivation of their parents.
In homosexual “coupling”, the absence of the opposite sex is equivalent to its devaluation as an entity. It marks the degradation of the person, with the forced purchase or sale of his/her genetic material to create “orphan” offspring. And in the demands of homosexual male coupling, the debasement of the female entity and motherhood culminates in the “renting” of the female womb.
The conscience and tradition of our people is clear and is opposed to any such “marriage”. Marriage is only the lifelong and eternally prospective union of two heterosexual spouses, under the blessing of our Church. In the consciousness of our people there is alive the Law of the Gospel, the will of God, the Tradition of our Church, which express all Orthodox Christians, for whom such a union is blasphemous and destructive. This, moreover, was amply demonstrated by the enlightened decision of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, which met in an extraordinary session on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, condemning unequivocally such a “marriage”. But, even those who have no theological education oppose any such unhealthy union, respecting the biological laws of nature, which determine which sexual relations are prosperous and creative and which are unsustainable and therefore must be rejected.
In heterosexual marriage and the Family, parents are asked to sacrifice their rights for the sake of their children. In same-sex “marriage”, the entire society and, in particular, its most vulnerable members, the children, are asked to sacrifice themselves to satisfy the fabricated and unsubstantiated rights of homosexual “coupling”.
The following 140 Orthodox Christian Associations – together with their Branches – from all over Greece and the movement for the traditional Greek Orthodox family “Mom, Dad and Children”, are opposed to any attempt to legally equate homosexual relations with heterosexual relations and marriage, under any pretext whatsoever, and call on everyone to react with every legal means for its annulment.
