A basic characteristic of the Association “Basil the Great” is the organization of its missionary activity for the cultivation of its members and the evangelization of our society in separate fields of action according to the age and education of the persons to whom it is addressed.
Since our teenage and student years, we hear various people shouting about the opposition between Christianity and science, about the separation of Church and State, about the exclusion of Christianity from education and from the public sphere. Our Association, wishing to take an informed position and participate in this dialogue that has been going on in our society for many decades, has created the “Scientists’ Sector“, which is addressed to university graduates who are active in the social and professional arena.
The Scientific Section of our Association aims to spread the testimony of Christ within the scientific community, to defend the rights of Orthodox Christian citizens in the country and to highlight the cultural proposal of the Orthodox Church.
In order to achieve this goal, the Scientific Section organizes lectures, workshops and round tables for the study of current scientific, historical and social issues from the perspective of our Orthodox faith. Such events are held every month in the Association’s hall in the main entrance hall.
The highlight of the whole year is, of course, the Pedagogical Conference of the Association. The conference focuses on issues of concern to practicing teachers with emphasis on issues and problems identified within the classroom, with the aim of educating teachers and strengthening them to fulfill their constitutionally enshrined and high mission.
At the same time, the Scientific Section of the Association collaborates with other Orthodox Christian associations of our city to co-organize interventions on topical issues of great importance.
