The camps of Elliniko and Athamanios are an important part of our association. The operation and maintenance of the camps require several expenses every year, unbearable for our already difficult finances. Nevertheless, we try at all costs not only to keep them open, but also to improve them with new necessary or legally required infrastructure. Necessary interventions in the sports fields, building infrastructure and electrical and plumbing installations, renewal of food safety permits, studies of emergency plans and training of team leaders, etc. And all this so that our children can enjoy camping life even more and with even greater safety.
Recently there has been an even greater need to move forward with certain projects that are critical to camp life:
Rebuilding of the New Holy Church of Saint Makrina in the Athamani Camp of Artis
The construction of a new church in the camp of Athamanion continues as the old church had structural problems. A significant amount of money raised from donations for this purpose has helped the project to progress, however, much costly work is still required to complete it. The total construction cost is expected to exceed 300,000 euros.
Maintenance works at the Camp of Elliniko Corinthia
We experienced a great miracle at the Elliniko camp as the big fire that broke out in the area at the end of September 2024 reached the boundaries of the camp and changed direction at the last literal moment! We praise and thank God. However, there was enough time to cause property damage costing several tens of thousands of euros to add to the necessary maintenance costs that are difficult to service from the club’s meager income. Here too, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour needs projects that are not progressing due to the financial difficulties.
